Abner Mares, Four-Time World Boxing Champion and FOX Sports boxing analyst on INSIDE PBC BOXING - in Conversation with LA County Undersheriff, Timothy K. Murikami
Abner Mares is a Four Time, Three Division World Boxing Champion who overcame and built a dominating career in boxing, as well as TV and community service. He came to the U.S. at age 7 from Guadalajara, Mexico with his family, living at the poverty level and having had to dumpster dive for food and collect bottles and cans to help the family pay their bills. As a teenager, his family sent him back to Mexico to avoid gang life and finish high school. He was chosen to represent Mexico in the Athens Olympics as a member of the Mexican Olympic Boxing team. He turned professional after the games and proceeded to become the youngest world champion and has since gone on to hold four titles. He is an advocate for his community and spearheads multiple events with the LA County Sheriff’s Youth Activity League serving as an active, positive role model and example of how you can achieve anything you dream of, no matter what your financial or living situation is. He has held media events at the Sheriff’s Century Station boxing gym to expose not only the media to the Youth Activity League programs, but to allow the nearly 400 children served at that location to the many careers and jobs in the business of boxing. He is a co-host of “PBC Boxing on FOX” series on FOX and FS1 and a commentator on Telemundo’s “Boxeo Telemundo” live boxing series. His Instagram series “Abner Mares: Body, Mind & Soul” was nominated for a Cynopsis Short Form Video award in 2018. He is a father of two daughters, a husband, and one of 10 children.
