JR Grant, Vice President, Product and Technology, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group: As Vice President, Video Products & Platforms, for Disney-ABC Television Group, JR Grant leads product development, engineering, distribution and operations for all Disney-ABC Television group’s multi-platform digital video businesses, including the groundbreaking WATCH ABC, WATCH ABC Family and WATCH Disney authenticated video products.  Mr. Grant reports to Skarpi Hedinsson, Senior Vice President, Technology & Platform, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group.  The Technology & Platform team enables the Group to make innovative strides in the creation and delivery of short form and long form broadband video.  Most recently, they deployed the revolutionary WATCH services making the Disney/ABC Television Group the first to provide authenticated users access to both live, 24/7 linear network streams as well as an extensive offering of advantaged window “on demand” episodes on desktops, connected TVs, smartphones and tablets.  Prior to launching the WATCH services, the team designed and built the Emmy Award-winning Full Episode Player for ABC.com and the critically acclaimed ABC Player App for iOS devices, both industry defining when they launched for being first to make full episodes of ABC Network Primetime, Daytime, and Late Night programs available to viewers on their respective platforms.  The ABC Player app, now WATCH ABC, is one of the Top 20 most downloaded iPad apps of all time in the US.  Mr. Grant also oversees the daily operations and support for many of DATG’s 3rd party digital video partnerships including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and many others.  A long time Disney Employee, Mr. Grant joined the Company in 1998 working in the Sports television production on such events as Indy 500, ABC’s College Football, ABC’s Monday Night Football and many others. In 1999, Mr. Grant was tapped to work with Walt Disney Imagineering R&D on an Interactive TV project.  In this role, Mr. Grant developed innovative production processes and along with WDI R&D created multiple technology innovations to power unique interactive experiences synchronized to ABC and ESPN televised sporting events.  Over the next few years, Mr. Grant helped take project out of R&D and into a business operations mode eventually being promoted to Director Production and Programming in 2002 where he oversaw Engineering, Production and worked with legal and business affairs to help secure early digital/interactive Programming rights with many 3rd party rights holders including the NFL and the PGA Tour.  During this time, Mr. Grant also worked with industry standards bodies like CableLabs and many MVPDs directly, including Time Warner Cable and Dish Network to develop solutions for interactive data to be used in a traditional set-top-box environment many of the specifications Mr. Grant contributed to are still in use today.  In 2007, Mr. Grant moved from ABC’s offices in New York to Los Angeles to join the newly created DATG Digital Media Organization as Director of Product Development.  In this capacity he worked on cutting edge R&D efforts many of which involved the Digital Video Products and Technology. He played a key role in expanding ABC’s Digital Long Form Video experience to ABCFamily and Disney Channel as well as taking the products multi-platform.  He was promoted to his current position in 2010.  Mr. Grant has been awarded 3 Media/Technology Emmy Awards for various projects including The Oscars Experience, and a project with Disney Channel’s former Jetix brand.  He also has numerous pending patents for innovations around interactive TV and Digital Video Distribution. Mr. Grant earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism/Communications from Iowa State University.

 

Doug Rosen is Vice President, Partnerships, TV Everywhere at NBC Universal responsible for partner relationships for NBCU’s TVE Initiative, focused on developing a unified strategy and approach for current and potential partners to maximize consumer exposure and engagement.   He also oversees core strategic insights for the TVE team, creating the lens through with NBC Universal can identify innovative areas for platform development and growth.   Previously, Rosen was Senior Director, Strategy & Business Development within NBCU’s corporate digital group focused on identifying and creating growth opportunities within the digital portfolio.   In this role he also led business development, partnerships and corporate development initiatives for DailyCandy.  Prior to NBC Universal, Rosen led strategic planning for DIRECTV's Digital Entertainment Product Group, responsible for defining new areas of opportunity and monetization beyond the traditional pay TV ecosystem.   Before DIRECTV Rosen was the Director of Digital Products at HBO overseeing strategy, product management, development and marketing for HBO's digital subscriber platforms including HBO and Cinemax On Demand and the companies HD, 3D and second screen/interactive TV initiatives.  Before joining HBO, Rosen spent over seven years within the media industry, including positions as Director of Development for the Chesterfield Writer’s Film Project and in Business Development with the Walt Disney Company.   He is currently a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).  Rosen holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Dartmouth College.

 

Emil Rensing, Chief Digital Officer, EPIX: a joint venture between Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM. As a digital media pioneer, Emil has been instrumental in the early success of America Online and MTV Networks Online. As a partner at Frederator Studios and co-founder of Next New Networks, he's parlayed that expertise in to original programming and audience development in the on-air and online world. In his latest undertaking, Emil oversaw the October 30 launch of EpixHD.com.

 

Shahid Khan, Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, MediaMorph, Inc., Managing Partner, MAG (Meridian Advisory Group, LLC): Shahid Khan is an acclaimed thought leader and entrepreneur in the Media industry, with a tremendous twenty-year track-record of working with senior management at leading Media, Entertainment and Cable companies to launch digital and cross-platform businesses, including Linear TV, Digital Video, Digital Music, eBook, eMagazines and eCommerce plays. Shahid is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of MediaMorph, the leading global provider of cloud-based software and Big-Data/Analytics services for the entire Media Industry, from TV and Film Studios to TV Networks to Cable and Satellite Companies to Digital Media Players. Mediamorph's offerings include cross-platform media tracking, audience measurement, analytics, licensing and royalties management services. Mediamorph's clients include Cablevision, E! At MAG, Shahid and his team work with clients such as Scholastic, Conde Nast, Cablevision, Barnes & Noble, Disney, etc. to help them launch new digital products/services, and advise them on their various strategic initiatives. MAG received the prestigious “Seven Small Jewels” Award by Consulting Magazine, as one of the top emerging consulting firms. Prior to embarking upon his entrepreneurship forays, Shahid played senior executive roles at leading consulting and technology firms. He has served as Senior Partner at IBB Consulting, Managing Director and Head of Entertainment and Information Services industry practices at KPMG Consulting/BearingPoint and Partner at IBM Global Services in Communication Industry. Over the years, Shahid has advised C-level executives at several top TV Networks, Hollywood Studios and Cable Companies. Shahid holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from NYU's Stern School of Business, and is a Fellow at U. Penn's Wharton School of Business. As an expert in Media, Shahid frequently appears on TV interviews with CNBC and Bloomberg TV; is often quoted in leading publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, the New York Times, etc.; and is a frequent speaker at leading industry conferences, including CES, Media Summit, Monaco Media Forum, Abu Dhabi Media Summit, etc. Shahid recently received the prestigious “Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business” award by the Asian American Business Development Center.

Jason Henderson is the Senior Interactive TV Product Manager for Dish Network, focusing on consumer applications to transform interactive television. Previously he ran the iTV Apps platform for Verizon FiOS TV, with responsibility for new Gaming, Music, and TV Everywhere projects. Alex Van Helsing, his popular young adult series from HarperCollins, was named by the Texas Library Association to the 2011 Lone Star Reading List, a list of the top 20 new books for young readers. He also writes for games and comics, including the 2013 BEN 10 comic miniseries from IDW and the 2013 game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows from Activision. Henderson earned his BA from University of Dallas in 1993 and his JD from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C., in 1996. Henderson lives in Colorado with his wife and two daughters.
